As longtime Kauai lovers, we’re happy to share our favorite tips these are the experiences we’ve personally enjoyed and recommend to every guest.

SOUTH SHORE (POIPU & KOLO’A)

The sunny side of the island, right at your doorstep.

Snorkeling:
– Poipu Beach Park: The most popular spot for a reason. It’s protected by a reef, making it safe for children, and has full lifeguard services. Tip: Arrive by 9:00 AM to snag a good spot on the grass.
– Prince Kuhio Beach (Lawai Beach): Located directly in front of the Beach House Restaurant. As you noted, the entry is rocky, but the snorkeling is superb—especially for spotting sea turtles (Honu) on the left side of the reef. – Salt Pond Beach Park: A bit further west in Hanapepe, this is a local favorite. The natural rock barriers create calm “salt ponds” that are perfect for a relaxed swim.

Entertainment & Activities:

– Poipu Beach Athletic Club: Don’t forget that your stay includes a membership! It’s the perfect place for a “reset” day by the pool or a quick morning workout.
– [Capt. Andy’s Sailing Adventures](https://www.napali.com/): Their sunset dinner cruises are legendary. During whale season (Dec–April), the humpbacks are the stars of the show. Pro- Tip: These sell out weeks in advance; book as soon as your condo is confirmed.
– [Kauai Coffee Company](https://kauaicoffee.com/): The largest coffee farm in the U.S. Their new plantation tour is a deep dive into the “bean to cup” process. Even if you don’t do the tour, the free tasting lanai is a must- stop.
– [Koloa Rum Company](https://koloarum.com/): Located at the historic Kilohana Plantation. We highly recommend their Rum Safari and their tasting room, both require reservations [online reservations](https://koloarum.com/). The Coffee and Coconut rums are local icons—and as you found, you can restock at Total Wine back home!

WEST SIDE (WAIMEA & CANYON)

Rugged beauty and the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.”

– [Waimea Canyon State Park](https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/parks/kauai/waimea-canyon-state-park/): A must- see. The “Red Dirt Waterfall” is a great quick photo op on the way up.
– Hiking: The Canyon Trail to Waipoo Falls is a moderate 3.6- mile trek that offers the best views of the canyon depths without being overly technical.
– Napali Coast (West Entry): Most boat tours depart from Port Allen (near Eleele). The views of the 3,000- foot cliffs from the water are the quintessential Kauai experience.

EAST SIDE (THE COCONUT COAST)

The hub for adventure, river sports, and local culture. – [Smith Family Luau](https://www.smithskauai.com/garden- luau/): Consistently rated the best on the island for its authentic family feel and stunning botanical garden setting. Note: Book early.
– [Wailua River Kayak & Secret Falls](https://aliikayaks.com/blog/secret- falls- kayaking- guide/): Renting your own kayaks is a great way to save money and go at your own pace. Be prepared for a very muddy hike (wear “tabis” or old sneakers you don’t mind ruining).
– [Kauai Backcountry Tubing](https://kauaibackcountry.com/): A unique float through old sugar plantation irrigation tunnels. This is one of the hardest tickets to get on the island—check their [waitlist](https://kauaibackcountry.com/tubing- waitlist/) if your dates are full.
– Fitness:- [CrossFit Kapaa](https://www.crossfitkapaa.com/): For those looking to keep their routine, they have a great drop- in community. Check their schedule for “Open Gym” or class times.
– Hiking:- Sleeping Giant (Nounou Mountain): The East Trail is a steady climb but rewards you with a 360- degree view of the island and the coastline.

NORTH SHORE (HANALEI & HA’ENA)

Lush, emerald mountains and iconic scenery.

– [Ha’ena State Park & Kalalau Trail](https://gohaena.com/):- CRITICAL: Access requires a reservation via the North Shore Shuttle or a pre-paid parking pass. These open exactly 30 days in advance at 12:00 AM HST and sell out in minutes.
– [Limahuli Garden & Preserve](https://ntbg.org/gardens/limahuli/): This is likely the “Botanical Garden” you enjoyed. It’s a stunning example of an ancient Hawaiian ahupua’a (land division) and features many endangered native plants.
– Hanalei Town: Great for a post-hike meal. Tahiti Nui (from the movie The Descendants) has a great vibe, and the food trucks in the center of town offer amazing fresh poke and shave ice.
– Kilauea Lighthouse: A fantastic spot for bird watching (look for the Laysan Albatross) and spotting whales from the cliffs during the winter.

Snorkeling:
– Hideaway Beach: Located in Princeville. The “path” is essentially a cliffside with ropes—not for the faint of heart, but the snorkeling at the bottom is some of the best on the island.
– Anini Beach: Known for the longest fringing reef in Hawaii, making the water incredibly calm and shallow for a long way out.

Poipu is Kauaʻi’s sunniest region and one of the most beloved resort destinations in all of Hawaiʻi. Everything you need is right at your doorstep.

Shopping & Dining
Just across Poipu Road, Poipu Shopping Village features unique shops, art galleries, and dining options — and hosts free hula shows with live Hawaiian music every Monday and Thursday afternoon. You’ll also find a grocery store and Starbucks there for everyday conveniences.

For a more upscale outing, The Shops at Kukuʻiula offer high- end boutiques, award- winning restaurants, and contemporary art galleries in a setting that reflects Hawaiʻi’s plantation past, with a Kauaʻi Culinary Market on Wednesdays and live music on Fridays.

A short drive brings you to charming Old Kōloa Town, with local shops, restaurants, and a glimpse into Kauaʻi’s plantation history.

Golf

Getting Around
Poipu is easy to navigate by car, with most essentials and attractions within a short drive. The on- site Activities Desk can help book tours and adventures during your stay.

FAQ

1. Does it have an ocean view?

No direct ocean view, but you'll have a wonderful private lanai surrounded by tropical greenery, and the beach is a pleasant 4–5 minute walk away.

2. Does the condo have air conditioning?

Yes! Most Kiahuna units don't have AC due to electrical limitations u2014 we installed one specifically for your comfort.n

3. Does the condo include pool & fitness center access?

Yes complimentary access to the Poipu Beach Athletic Club across the street is included with your stay.n

4. What floor is the condo on?

Ground floor of Building 42, just steps from free parking. No stairs!n

5 .Can you hear road noise?

Our building is along Poipu Road. With the shutters open you may hear light traffic, particularly from the bedroom. Most guests find that closing the windows or running the AC or a fan for white noise completely solves it. Light sleepers who prefer absolute quiet may want to consider a unit closer to the beach (we're happy to suggest options, though they typically come at a higher price).
